2 Corinthians 6
Introduction
In Chapter Six, Paul continues to discuss the comfort of God. In this case, related to the circumstances encountered in ministry. I've read ahead, so I know what's coming next, and I have to say that it's a little intimidating. Paul gives us an outline -- perhaps a job description, for a good minister of Jesus Christ. I look at it and say, "Who can possibly meet these requirements? I certainly can't."
The standards are pretty high. So much so, that no one I know could meet them. However, it is important we realize we are in the section on the comfort God provides. In other words, it is God who supplies the supernatural ability to us so that we might perform at the level and in the way He instructs. If we had to do it on our own, we would most certainly fail.
Burnout in ministry is always related to doing things in our power, strength, talent and ability. It might work for a while, but it is destined for failure. Why? Because it is God's work, so He provides everything we need. We simply join Him in His work. This is a freeing and stress-releasing perspective which is sometimes absent in ministry. Take a look at your own thought process. Where is God? Is it His work or yours? Have you paused in the activity long enough to ask Him what comes next?
