2 Corinthians 5:6
Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord.
I've gotten kind of used to this old body of mine. I know when I first get in bed at night, I need to give my left knee a little extra time to bend because it catches. And I've got this scar in my eye brow where my sister Nancy and I bumped heads when we were kids. Not to mention my stomach doesn't do too well with grilled onions. I could go on and on. I'm sure you also have detailed knowledge of your own physical characteristics and a long list of injuries. Let's suffice it to say, we're all very familiar (although not always comfortable) in these bodies of ours. After all, we have a good deal of history with them. In fact, I still kind of like mine regardless of its flaws.
In our passage today, Paul warns us to not feel too at home in this body. Why? Because as long as we are in these houses, we are away from the Lord. So even though as Christians we have the indwelling Spirit of Christ, there still should be a sense of absence from His presence.
Are you too comfortable at home on this earth? Is there something missing? What is your view of eternity and of the life Scripture has promised with the Lord?
