2 Corinthians 2:15-16a
For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life.
The knowledge of Christ (and those of us who bring His message) have two distinctly different effects on people. To the enemies of God, our praise and our testimony will be offensive. (Acts 24:24-25: "Several days later Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish. He sent for Paul and listened to him as he spoke about faith in Christ Jesus. As Paul talked about righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, 'That's enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you.'")
On the other hand, for those who receive the message of Christ and are headed to heaven, it releases the aroma of life. (John 11:26: "Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.'")
So as we go about our business today -- whether it is work, school, the grocery store or the golf course -- remember one thing, to those who are destined to live eternally, we will have the sweet fragrance and aroma of Christ. But to those who are rebellious and determined to reject Jesus, we'll have the smell of death. So don't take it personally, just realize it is a reaction to the fact they are not part of the Kingdom of God.
Some people don't get us. They think Christians are backward, foolish, uneducated, and naive. We are a stench in their nostrils. But to others -- those who are unsaved yet called -- we are the very breath of Christ. How will you respond today? Will you share your testimony regardless of the reaction?
