2 Corinthians 1:3b
...and the God of all comfort?
God doesn't always choose to comfort us in the same ways. For example, He may:
1. Remove us from the source of the problem. (Acts 9: 28-30: "So Saul stayed with them and moved about freely in Jerusalem, speaking boldly in the name of the Lord. He talked and debated with the Hellenistic Jews, but they tried to kill him. When the believers learned of this, they took him down to Caesarea and sent him off to Tarsus.")
2. Use words to encourage and offer hope for the future. (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18: "For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one another with these words.")
3. Use other people who share our common faith. (Romans 1:12: "...that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other?s faith.")
4. Provide a prophetical word at just the right time. (1 Corinthians 14:3: "But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort.")
5. Send co-workers to strengthen and serve with us. (Colossians 4:11: "Jesus, who is called Justus, also sends greetings. These are the only Jews among my co-workers for the kingdom of God, and they have proved a comfort to me.")
6. Provide teachers for greater illumination of His Word. (1 Thessalonians 2:11-12: "For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.")
7. Use the church, the body of Christ. (1 Thessalonians 5:11: "Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.")
The foregoing is not intended to be a complete list of every way God provides comfort. The point is -- the source of all comfort is God -- no matter which way He may choose to provide it.
He is always in control.
Psalms 46:1: "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." Are you in need of comfort? Have you sought the Lord? Will you do so now?
